Sorry for the Borrowed title there Dope, but reading yours and seeing you progress spurred me a bit.
After the tri on the 26th July im taking up judo seriously. I live near "Scotland's centre of Excellence" for judo and boxing and numerous other things. I have always been interested in combat sports namely BJJ, Judo and Sambo!
So now im going to compete and progress in Judo with an aim to get a few championships and achieve a dan grade (thats black belt).

After talking to my dan grade mate he reckons i can make it in 2 -3 years. We are going to be competing by October!
I have also entered tough guy 2010, the SAAB cross country race and the Strathclyde triathlon as little sideliners.

it is possible, depends on the syllabus, instructor, and all that kinda stuff, mainly down to politics. the grade helps when competing, but it's more down to experience.
train smart and listen to your body. do a few small tournaments to get a feel for what it is like before venturing in big tournaments. but don't saturate your calender with tournaments as you will most likely burn out or lose motivation.
i know competitors that do every single tournament from every single promoter in the country and they either burn out or lose motivation. the times they medal would be either due to 3 or less people competing or the 'veteran' status.
veteran status is basically the more you compete on a particular circuit, the more the judges/refs see you, more familiar they get with your performance and the more they favour you cos they 'know' you more than some newcomer to the circuit.

Well next week is post triathlon stress week. Ill be taking it easy.
I knew i would GOMAD, so the week after next (monday 3rd August) Ill be starting my new Gallon of milk with regular healthy food and a stronglift program. Additionally ill be doing Judo/Brazillian jui jitsu twice a week and cross country running once a week.
next week ill be taking some pasty skinnyfat pictures and throwing em up.
