Hope this is an OK place to post this.
Figured I'd start a visual diary of my bulk, weekly calorie intake and maybe some words on my training.

I've been bulking for officially Sep 12th eating at around 2600 calories with a starting weight of 140lbs ish (I'm not focusing on weight too much, just by mirror and measure)

After a week I felt like I was gaining too much fat, so cut down to 2200-2300. But after a couple of days, felt it was too awkward of a number to stick to so from the 26th I bumped back up to 2500 minimum and 3000 maximum. Typically landing at 2700.. Sometimes I just want to eat and eat!

Diet wise - I've been following a low carb approach, no grains or starches, just fruit and nut butters and milk as my carb sources, oh and green veggies, the veggies don't really account for much though.

    Pictures -

Start of the month. I think I was nearing the pretty ripped stage here, although no real muscle mass to speak of.

    Today 6th October
I think I've put a little fat on, maybe some water too, but my arms have grown, left 12.2 to 12.3 right 12.5 to 12.8 need to confirm rest of measures.

Goal is to add at least an inch on each arm, bring my traps and shoulders up and generally look bigger all round.

What do people think so far? Advice

Fork and Spoon curls. Get your calories in everyday, train consistent and you'll grow.

You know how to diet your bodyfat off so don't worry about gaining any.

    Good luck

Ha ha, fork and spoon curls, I like it!

    Thanks! Appreciate the uplifting words!
This time I'm going to definitely be consistent, really want results!

    - To anyone who've done low carb bulks. I haven't been doing carb ups at all. I'm trying to keep relatively primal apart from milk and peanut butter, I like low carb just fine but figured once in a while it'd be good to load up a bit. I was thinking maybe bananas and apples? Also I'm thinking of adding L-glutamine and creatine to my diet, would these be beneficial?

    Cheers

I think carbing up every so often is a good idea. It's very easy to get in enough calories to grow on these days. I think bulking on a low carb diet without them is incredibly difficult unless you start drinking oil and double cream. Of course it's easy if you can stomach kilos of meat and cheese or are happy to drink cream and oil. I can't so a mix of fruit carbs and cheat meals- pizza, pasta and/or ice cream (if you want some really filthy easy calories) is a great way to knock back an extra couple of thousand calories to help the scale along.

I think I might do it, not often though, just to get any cravings out of the way, although I don't really crave that stuff anymore, only occasionally when I see the cinnamon grahams box half eaten... It needs to be finished!!

So is extra carbs from fruit ok then? I''m under the impression that the fructose will do nothing to replenish my glycogen at all?

    And what about creatine/l-glutamine?

Creatine is good if you respond to it, get some creapure and give it a go, cheap enough. Glutamine is USELESS for muscle growth, not bad for gut / immune health though.

And Fructose replenishes glycogen just fine, intitially the liver though - hence excessive intake (now don't take this the wrong way, were talking huge amounts) causes a fatty liver. Having liver glycogen stores full is also part of the anabolic signal to grow.

Plus most fruit is an equal split between fructose and glucose, so is a great way to get your carbs in, eat it.

    EAT!

An inch to your arms roughly equates to an extra stone in BW. Best get your eat on then...

Thanks ATZ - Think I may give creatine a go, we'll see. Like to keep my supps on the low side. I only ever have whey on workout days post workout. Don't see much need otherwise.

So I'm gonna start eating more fruit then, will allow me to up my carbs but without any grain/starch (that stuff is hell on my bowel, although I may endure it once in a while for some dirty cals :-)

An inch equates to a stone, which is about 14lbs.. My goal from the start was always to add 10-15 lbs. So it's official, add 15lbs onto my frame. 20lbs if possible

Girlfriend has said I'm starting to fill out a bit, only a little. But it's good to hear as she was worried about me, the family were to. Was a pain trying to explain to her everytime, I want to get lean so I can better bulk up.

In terms of necking oil, meat, cheese and double cream, I love it, although a good way to get lots of cals in are full fat mayo! 100cals per 15g! Just add a load of that and it's another spin on necking oil, just tastier!

    Hows your bulk going?

I'm still keeping my training diary so most info is in there. But, I've not gained weight for about a month now though my strength is going up well.
