    ...For my category any hoo.

As my body would appear to still thrive off 5x5 (did a little 'experimenting'), I have decided to have a go at 'Bill Starr - Glenn Pendlay 5x5'. You can have a look at my previous training log in which I was following #29, #37 and #32 of Borris Sheiko's powerlifting programmes.

    Goals,

Squat - 222.5kg> (current world record for my category)
    Deadlift - 250kg
    Bench - 145/150kg, I'll take either.

Easy enough. Did GM's instead of weighted hypers.

By the way, I always round the weights up or down the the nearest multiple of 5, e.g. squats were 175kg, 5th set of rows was 100kg.

A 5kg PB on the squats for that rep range (upping the total weight shifted for rep and set range by 125kg) which I am very happy about! I could 'only' manage 5x5 at 170kg when I squatted 210kg, and that was whilst going through Smolov's mesocycle.

You'll notice that there is a big gap between my previous log and this, reason being that I had a damn nasty illness which set me back big time.

It would be greatly appreciated if any mod out there would care to change the topic title to "Odevans's training to a world record squat...".

    Cheers!

    Don't ask.

I died a little after that. The deadlifts were very hard after what my body has been through in the last two days.

Should have had a day between workouts, will not be skipping a rest day ever again!

Today's 1x5x185kg was in fact much easier than 1x5x175kg that I did last Thursday.
Also passed my interview to become a medic in the Royal Navy today. Combined with the ease of the 185kg set, this makes for one hell of a good day

    Thank you very much mate!

My strength has already increased a lot so far, I'll really be put to the test with monday's 5x5x180kg!

Are you going for a third cycle?

Not right now. I have decided to do 2 cycles of hst. Althought my strenght increased a lot, at the moment I want to train for size and aesthetic reasons too.
But then I will go back to do another 2-3 cycles of Bill Starr 5x5 once I complete hst.

Did you not gain much size on the 5x5? I'm noticing a lot of difference in my shape, as are my gym friends.

Got 5,4,4,5,5 on the squats. My eyes were literally blood shot on the last two reps on the fifth set. Loved it.

I got sets of 4 when my gym partner (body builder, so different type of training) went to the loo, then they went back up to five when he returned. The difference that having someone shouting at you does is incredible. Couldn't have done it without him. By the way, he never gives me physical support as I don't allow it, just motivation.

Bench and rows etcetera were surprisingly easy considering what I was doing on the squats.

Another fantastic day. Now to tuck into 350g of pork chops!
