    Hi !

Came across the site a short time ago and recently revisited thinking its time to step my game up.

Over the past few years most of my training has been cardio based, training 6 days a week ( with the occasional lazy month thrown in) with a split of running, cycling and some full body weight workouts.

Although I can prob get with having an athletic appearance I hide away about 20% Bf which never really dropped with all my cardio. Presumably down to my thought that if I trained regular and hard I can eat what I want.

Used to just do weight training a good few years ago and got in good shape through it and popping onto this site has rekindled that interest.

I'll be documenting my diet & training here and will be starting the SL 5x5 routine. Going to be hard dropping to 3 days training from 6 but I'm sure I'll be glad of it when I get heavy.

Will be starting next week when I get back from the States and I will list my size, weight etc stats then.

Really looking forward to getting told where I'm going wrong.....

Final day before starting SL5x5 and monitoring food tomorrow. 5 mile Santa dash, dressed as Santa having had 4hrs sleep and a hangover this morning. Things can only get better. It's the first hangover I've had in months !

Weigh in and BF details to be logged tomorrow am. Really looking toward to it, my kitchen looks like a MyProtein store at the moment.

Going to go right in at the entry level requirement weights which I presume will be waaay too light but I may as well get the form right now.

Now off to buy veg, chicken, salmon, steak etc.

    Thanks Karryanne,

Well finally time to start, so today ....

I'm 6'1, weigh 200 lbs and scales show bodyfat at 22.5% which I'm thinking is a little high (hopefully)

    Squat 5x5 @ 45lbs (no issues)
    Bench 5x5 @ 45lbs (really no issues)
Barbell Row 5x5 @ 65lbs (no probs with weight felt tricky on the lower back - prob coz its new and didn't bend forward enough)
Chin ups 3 sets of 7,3,2 (thought I'd have got a lot more of these !)

    Cals 2641
    Carbs 258
    Fat 106
    Protein 238

    Roll on Wednesday...

Tuesday 6th Dec - Rest Day

    Cals 2514
    Carbs 287
    Fat 100
    Protein 160

    Wednesday 7th Dec

    Cals 2564
    Carbs 453
    Fat 80
    Protein 185

    Squat 5x5 @ 50lbs (no issues again)
    OHP 5x5 @ 45lbs (no issues, easy)
    Deadlift 1 x 5 @ 95lbs (felt like I was cheating only doing 1 set)

I know its going to get harder but its really easy at the moment and it takes about 15 minutes. Really cant wait for the weight to go up and I feel the benefit of rest days.

I've no idea what I'm doing with regard to food so I'm going for a balanced diet and shakes/supps. Not sure how many cals etc I should be doing on a bulk but I dont want to bulk with fat and I think if I throw in 3000+ cals now with this easy workout its going to give me too much fat.

Thinking I may try and start a cut in Feb/March, will see how i go.

    See you friday......

    Fri 9th Dec

    Squat 5x5 @ 55lbs (yawn)
Bench 5x5 @ 50lbs (way too easy, should have started heavier....I'll persevere)
BB Row 5x5 @ 70lbs (again no issues, form a lot better)
Chin Ups 7,4,3 (slight improvement but probably mind over matter than strength gains)

    Cals 2968
    Carbs 290
    Fat 143
    Protein 146

2 days off now, sure I'll end up having to do a run, have held out all week. Scales on Monday should be fun !?

Going to change all the weights from now on to kg as its in kg at my gym. Also going to up the weight by 10lbs for the next workout or 2 in a bid to get to something that feels like training. Have other people doing SL5x5 found themselves doing this ?

I havent done it for some time but if you are sure your form is good It wont hurt to ramp it slightly quicker, just dont go too much too fast because you will stall and lose interest.

Good read btw, I like the fact you count your macros every day, hard to maintain that way of living though I found in the past, the best I can do is stick to a regimented diet for 6 weeks at a time eating the exact same food and indeed macros and then change it up.

I think my forms good, I'll no doubt feel it when I get heavy if it isn't. I'll also film myself when I putting the effort in, just to make sure.

Counting the Macro's is easy using an app on the phone. Without that I'd be lost. I'm hoping to find a regimented diet for my cut next year, if someone lays down exactly what to each each meal each day, I'll stick to it easy - I'll get on with the research in the New Year.
